All car manufacturers have interesting back stories of how they started or how certain models came to be built and so here is a selection of some of our favourite Ford facts.
Some interesting facts about Ford...
The Ford Motor Company was founded in 1903 by Henry Ford. The first car the company produced was the Model A.
The first big success for Ford came with the introduction of the famous Model T in 1908. The vehicle was so popular that in order to meet the demands of the order book, Ford developed the first assembly line to allow the company to increase the production numbers – a concept that would soon be adopted by all car manufacturers.
The company is still owned by the Ford family, making it the largest family-controlled company in the world.
Henry Ford was a lifelong friend of Thomas Edison (the inventor widely recognised for developing one of the earliest electric light bulbs). They had initially met when Henry Ford started working for the Edison Illuminating Company as an engineer.
Ford sales in the UK fell in 2021, from being the best-selling car brand in 2020, they would end 2021 as the fourth best-selling brand, having been outsold by the German giants of BMW, Audi and Volkswagen, with a reduction in sales of some 23%.
One of the best-selling cars of all time in the UK is the Ford Fiesta. It was first introduced in 1976 and to date there have been seven generations of the model. With over 16 million units sold worldwide, the public's love for the Fiesta shows no sign of slowing.
The Ford badge is one of the most recognisable in automotive history. The blue oval was first introduced in 1907 a few years after the company was founded. It was designed by the company's chief engineer and has remained largely unaltered over the subsequent 100+ years.
