Some interesting facts about Audi...
Audi was founded at the turn of the twentieth century by German August Horch. Horch had originally trained as a blacksmith and prior to launching Audi he had worked for three years for Mercedes-Benz.
Audi is believed to have been the first car manufacturer to crash test its cars to demonstrate their safety. However, this was nothing hi-tech like today's crash tests, instead they would simply invite spectators to view an audi being pushed down a hill and letting them see how it faired when it crashed at the bottom!
Ever wondered what the Audi logo of four connected rings represents? In 1932 Audi merged with three other German car manufacturers to form the Auto Union group – each ring representing one of the four companies.
You will have heard Audi's slogan 'vorsprung durch technik' on TV adverts thousands of times, but if your German isn't fully up to scratch you may not know that this translates to 'progress through technology'.
The name Audi means to listen. The surname of the founder Horch is the German word for listen and Audi is the Latin equivalent.
Audi was the second-best selling car brand in the UK in 2021, selling 117,953 units, a jump of over 9% on the previous year.
Audi has a proud history of competing in various motorsports which can be dated back all the way to the 1930s. Perhaps most famously is the success Audi enjoyed in the Word Rally Championship with the introduction of their four-wheel drive Quattro in the 1980s.
