At the peak of summer, we may be experiencing some heat waves throughout the UK. However, this can cause the car's interior to heat up to a very high temperature, which can be dangerous for you and your family. Follow these simple steps to keep your vehicle cool this summer:

AC Settings: The go-to is always using the air conditioning. However, you must ensure that you set this to fresh air and not recirculation as soon as you start your car. After around 5 to 10 minutes, you can change this to the recirculation setting, as typically, your vehicle will have reached the desired temperature by then.

Bottom vents: Using your bottom vents is the quickest way to get the hot air out of your vehicle. To do this, you must adjust your setting to the max, close all the vents across the dashboard, and ensure your windows are open. This will push the air from the bottom to the top, helping the stale hot air escape through the open windows.

Park your car in the shade: Car parking in direct sunlight will heat the vehicle to a dangerous temperature! Therefore, take your time while parking and find a suitable space; look for shaded places like tall buildings, underground parking lots, and under the trees.

Actions before getting in the car: If your vehicle has been parked directly in the sun for a few hours, we suggest opening all car doors for a few minutes to cool down. You could leave the windows open slightly at a safe distance to keep the hot air out while parked.

Use a sunshade: Using a sunshade will protect and reduce the inside of the vehicle's temperature. The sunshade will fit your windshield like a glove and stop lights and UV rays from getting into the car, reducing the interior temperature.

Check your car: Regularly top up your fluids such as screen wash, oil, water, etc. This will ensure your vehicle does not overheat on these hot summer days.

How to stay safe on hot days

Drink water: It is very important while driving on hot days; you must stay hydrated.

Keep your sunglasses handy: This will help avoid getting dazzled by the sunlight, as your sun visors can only do so much.

Plan your journey: Ensure you plan your trip so that you are not stuck in any traffic or road works, which will make your journey longer on a hot day.

Wear light clothing: It is very important to wear the correct clothing while driving on a hot day to stay cool. It would help if you considered maybe wearing a vest or some shorts. Remember, flip-flops or sliders are unsuitable for driving in, so stick to trainers with some breathable socks.
