What you need to consider if you are taking your car on a European holiday.

When traveling in Europe there is a number on requirements which you may not be aware about. Therefore, the Webuyurcar team have put together a top tip guide to make sure you are fully covered with everything you need.

The Webuyurcar team have got you covered with the essential checklist for driving in Europe, this includes what you will be needing to take and remember when you get to your destination.

Documents needed for driving in Europe

  • Full, valid driving licence and national insurance number
  • V5C certificate
  • Proof of vehicle insurance
  • European Breakdown Cover policy number and documents
  • Proof of ID
  • Travel insurance documents
  • Before you travel ensure your vehicle’s tax and MOT are valid and up to date
  • Air pollution sticker if driving in France and a UK sticker
  • Driving permits (one or more)

We also advised that you look over entry requirements and laws of your chosen destination which you will be traveling to make sure that everything runs smoothly on your travels.

A must when travelling in Europe

  • A spare fuel can
  • Additional engine oil and water
  • Road map or satellite navigation system
  • Photocopies of important documents
  • European Health Insurance card

Tips for driving in Europe

UK sticker- Ensure to buy a UK sticker, don’t forget that your vehicle must display the appropriate country identification letters.

Breakdown cover- Make sure that your break down cover extends to Europe, you may need to increase your existing cover or take out standalone.

Car insurance- Ensure that your car insurance covers you to drive abroad.

Adjust your headlights- Did you know it is a legal requirement not to dazzle oncoming drivers. We suggest you buy stickers that you put over the headlights so that the beam is re-directed for when you are driving on the right hand side

Visa check- Make sure to check the visa requirements at your chosen destination.

Passport check- Ensure that you passport is valid and has at least 6 months on it from your travel date. We also recommend having a photocopy of your passport on you at all times.
