The end of the
Iconic Ford Fiesta
Ford have announced that as of June 2023 they will no longer be making the Fiesta
On 26 October 2022 Ford officially announced that they will no longer be making Britain’s most owned car, the Fiesta. As the company 'accelerates' its plans to become fully electric, in the lead up to the 2030 ban on sales of new petrol and diesel cars.
The Ford Fiesta has been a permanent fixture at the top of the charts for over a decade, and we can all agree that the model has been a massive success for Ford. It was created originally as a more fuel-efficient, small car in the wake of the 1973 oil crisis. More than 20 million of the cars have since been built for customers worldwide, after it shot to the top of best-seller lists and remained there for decades. The government’s ban on the sale of new petrol and diesel cars will come into effect from 2030 with the sale of hybrids being outlawed from 2035.Thereafter, those buying new cars will have a choice of either battery-electric vehicles or cars fuelled by hydrogen. Whatever choice buyers make under the ban, one option they won’t have, however, is that of buying a car powered by fossil fuels. Fords Goal: “Our march toward an all-electric future is an absolute necessity for Ford. It is to meet the mobility needs of a transforming Europe that calls out for more innovation and a total commitment to the customer. But it is also about the pressing need for greater care of our planet, which is why we are committing to making a positive contribution to society and reducing emissions in line with the Paris Climate Agreement,” said Stuart Rowley, chair, Ford of Europe.
